Dalston Eastern Curve Garden: A Hidden Garden in Hackney

Updated March 2026 with new information.
Dalston Eastern Curve Garden

Tucked away just moments from Dalston Junction station, the Eastern Curve Garden is an East London gem hidden away from the main hustle and bustle of Dalston. An escape from the shops, tall buildings and noise is often needed and this place is the perfect location to meet friends, go and chill out with a book or take your little ones to play in the garden. I think the idea of a shared garden' is not only great for a little escape for visitors but also for the residents of the ever expanding number of flats and smaller places being rented out with no garden.

Garden Cafe - The garden is funded mainly through its cafe which serves coffee and a range of tea, fresh lemonade and if you come for a drink in the evening they sell beer, cider and wine - perfect. I visited with my mum and little sister recently and had a delicious soya hot chocolate while my little sister opted for the ginger beer which she said was 'too gingery' but I blame her teenage taste buds, the more ginger the better in my opinion. There are plenty of tables and little areas to sit down

The garden was created in 2010 on the disused Eastern Curve railway line that once connected Dalston Junction to the North London Line. The project brought together local residents, Hackney Council, architects and landscape designers to transform the derelict site into a much-needed green space for the neighbourhood.

Is Dalston Eastern Curve Garden free?
Yes, entry is free and the garden is open to the public year-round.

Where is Dalston Eastern Curve Garden?
It’s located at 13 Dalston Lane, E8 3DF just next to Dalston Junction station in Hackney.

Can you bring your own food and drinks?
Yes you can bring your own food, it's also important to clear any rubbish from anything you bring in with you. The cafĂ© serves drinks (including alcohol) and this is one of the ways they manage to stay open so I'd suggest bringing food but buy drink there to help support.

Can you volunteer at Dalston Eastern Curve Garden?
Yes, the garden regularly hosts volunteer gardening sessions and community events.
