I first came across Akoma while browsing online for skincare brands and specifically black soap. A work colleague had recommended black soap, I used it a few years ago and it was great for my blemish prone skin. I came across Akoma and after reading about them and spotting that they're based in the Midlands (where I'm from) I decided to make my first order.  I went for the 3 products photographed above.

Their raw shea butter, palm oil, coconut oil, coconut butter and black soap products are produced in cooperatives in Ghana. They are created using traditional methods and produce 100% organic products. You can find out more about them on their website.

Akoma Face Mask

The facemasks come as in a powder and you mix it with a small amount of water to create a paste. I really liked this as I feel like it lasts longer, some of the facemask I've had from places like The Body Shop have dried out towards the end of the tub. This particular mask I chose because I was having a few break outs, it made my skin feel amazing. The poppy seeds gently exfoliate/massage my skin when washing off the mask leaving my skin feeling super fresh.

Akoma black soap

The black soap is something that I will be buying again, I opted for the one with tea tree to help with my breakouts. My skin feels literally squeaky clean when I used this soap, I love it. The soap lathers up well, it removed make up but I tend to try and avoid my eyes with this as it was a little tingly when I did use it in that area. I went from using it a few times a week and occasionally use it like a mask (I work it into a lather on my face and leave for a few minutes) to using it on a daily basis. It works well with my skin, I have quite sensitive combination skin, this soap helps with my breakouts.  I'll be topping up on some soap very soon!

  1. Ooo, I love new skincare products, even better if they are from small businesses. I really like the product packaging, it's bold and recognisable. The face mask sounds great, will definitely have to check it out.
